By supporting JA Estonia, you will help bring the necessary financial literacy and an entrepreneurial mindset to school students. The JA instruction in entrepreneurship and financial literacy starts in the first grade and the programmes are built on a sequential model – each new piece of knowledge logically follows on from the previous one. This way, children can broaden and deepen their knowledge of entrepreneurship, the functioning of society and financial literacy every school year.
Research shows that the earlier we start changing attitudes, the more effective it is. The things students learn in the JA primary school programme create a strong foundation for young people in the future. Through activities, children learn to make decisions, take responsibility, think critically, manage money wisely, plan and implement their plans and much more. Above all, JA guides children in grades 1-6 to learn about entrepreneurship in their local area and to look for and see how they can make a difference in their own community. In a mini mini company or later in a mini company, young people can try their hand at being an entrepreneur without any risk.
JA programmes from primary to upper secondary schools have reached 240 upper secondary, basic and vocational schools, with 14,000 young people studying every year. In the coming years, we want to expand the presence of JA in primary and lower secondary schools, especially in rural areas where young people in education particularly need the knowledge and skills to improve life in their home communities.
- €5 pays for one student’s participation in the “7 Steps” programme for grades 1-6. It includes worksheets, games and online materials for teachers.
- €10 pays for a “Mini Mini Company” guide for teachers. A mini mini company is an entrepreneurship training programme for children in grades 4-6, where young people create their first small business, produce and sell their product at school or at a community fair and calculate their income and costs.
- €25 pays for the participation of one mini mini company in a fair. At a fair, young people get their first sales experience and feedback on their product.
- €70 pays for “Mini Mini Company” training for a teacher. It is a one-day training event that provides the teacher with the knowledge and methodology to guide young people through the entrepreneurship process.
- A permanent donation of €5 per month or €60 per year = one potential young entrepreneur for Estonia. €60 per year covers the costs of one mini company (grade 7-9) or student company (grade 10-12) for one young person participating in the programme during the school year. This includes the costs of training, fairs and competitions as well as consultancy. In Estonia, ca 2000 young people participate in the Student Company Programme every year.
