How does your donation help?
The Food Bank was established to take food from places that have too much to places that don’t have enough.
We pay special attention to families with young children and/or many children living below the poverty line. Food Banks receive information about those in need of help from local social departments. All Food Banks also work closely with other charities that help people experiencing difficulties.
In 2022, we distributed food to of 19,604 people per week on average. That’s roughly two times the population of Haapsalu or half the population of Pärnu. In total, we distributed 4.3 million kg of food, nearly 90% of which was rescued food from shops and factories.
According to Statistics Estonia, 22.8% (30,300 people) of the Estonian population lived in relative poverty in 2021, the highest rate in years. In 2021, 2.2% of people lived in absolute poverty, the share of absolute poverty decreased by 0.8%.
When you donate through the I Love to Help environment, you help cover the costs of essential activities that ensure the sustainability of the network of food banks: rescuing food from the network of shops, storing and packing food for distribution, and transporting food to counties and, if necessary, across Estonia.
Today, there are 16 food banks in Estonia: Tallinn, Tartu, Pärnu, Narva, Jõhvi, Rakvere, Viljandi, Põlva, Haapsalu, Järva County, Valga, Jõgeva, Saaremaa, Hiiumaa, Rapla and Võru.
The organisation is included on the list of non-profit organisations eligible for income tax incentives. Read more about taxes here: Donations and taxes.
