In 2024, the “I Love to Help” donation portal collected nearly €385,000 (45 euros on average) for charitable organisations
15.01.2025Last year, people made 8,512 donations for a total of €384,794 on Estonia’s oldest and largest donation platform “I Love to Help”. The most donations were made to initiatives related to children and healthcare.
“Last year showed that Estonian people’s heart is in the right place and despite everything, they still find ways to support organisations that try to resolve our social challenges,” said Tiina Pakk, frontrunner of the donation portal and Social Responsibility Manager at Swedbank. “Organisations listed with the portal received nearly €35,000 more in single donations than the year before, and they also receive regular donations,” she added.
“For donors, trust is everything. They need to know if the organisation collecting their donation is trustworthy and really does what it promises to do with the money. Organisations registered in the armastanaidata.ee portal have already won the donors’ trust and carry out activities with large social impact,” explained Katrin Arvisto, another frontrunner of the donation portal and Communication Manager of the Good Deed Foundation. “Currently, people can choose from a list of 43 organisations that have passed a stringent application process to make it to the “I Love to Help” portal. The next application round is opened in the spring. We will share more information in the coming months,” added Arvisto.
Last year proved successful for the cancer treatment fund “The Gift of Life” that received the most donations in the “I Love to Help” portal. All in all, the foundation received 1,359 donations in the amount of €81,022 to help cancer patients. “For cancer treatment fund “The Gift of Life”, 2024 was a year of records in both a positive and negative sense. Last year, we were contacted by the largest number of people in need in all our 10 years of activity. Fortunately, the amount donated also made a record,” said Margit Saar, CEO of the cancer treatment fund. “We are sincerely grateful for each donation made directly to our foundation or via the safe “I Love to Help” portal, because added together, droplets make a sea, and the sea makes an ocean. Together, we can help those that need it the most,” she added.
Other recipients of most donations were the Tallinn Children’s Hospital Support Foundation, the Rescue Association, the Estonian Association of Parents of Children with Cancer, and the Tartu University Hospital’s Children’s Foundation.
Across areas, most donations were made to organisations whose activity is focussed on children, especially children’s health issues. They received 39% of all donations made in the portal, amounting to €148,178. With the help of donations, different organisations offer necessary support to seriously or chronically ill children, as well as children requiring emotional support.
€103,196 or 27% of donations made in the “I Love to Help” in 2024 went to healthcare organisations. The most donations were received by the cancer treatment fund “The Gift of Life”.
Organisations that stand for a strong society and a safe and caring living environment received €64,288, which made up 17% of all donations made throughout the year. Organisations active in animal and nature protection collected 13% of all donations (for €50,935) and 4% of donations went to education initiatives (for €17,196).
The largest single donation of €25,000 was made to the Tallinn Children’s Hospital Support Foundation to help provide better treatment conditions to premature babies. An average single donation of 2024 was 45 euros (44 euros a year before). Most donations were made in December and the least in September.
To the total amount of private donations made in 2024, Swedbank added nearly €136,000 as direct donations to organisations listed in the “Love to Help” portal on the Good Deeds Day and also throughout the year.
The “I Love to Help” donation environment was created by the Good Deed Foundation and Swedbank in 2008. Since then, “I Love to Help” has grown into the largest donation environment in Estonia, where everyone can find and donate to an organisation working on an issue close to their heart. Over the years, more than 5.1 million euros have been donated through the armastanaidata.ee donation environment.
